Volleyball

Volleyball
----
Jason and I joined a group of neighbors this summer on a coed sand volleyball team...and boy was it fun and a little frustrating as the season ended tonight on a sad note--we lost! The boys were really great cheerleaders but we made the mistake one night of letting them play in the sand after a game...and this is what we came home with....
Preston....
and Ashten
hhmmmm...you can only imagine how long the bath took this night..
yep...imagine a little longer!

80's Night

We had a rare/fun night out with neighbors recently--80's themed AGAIN! Yes, this was mommy's second 80's party within a year...too bad I really don't remember the 80's or wasn't old enough to enjoy the outfits or music!
Slash and his groupie getting ready to head out...thankfully Nina and Papa were in town and happily helped us with the boys!

A Zoo Trip

A Zoo Trip
-----
At the beginning of the summer we also made a trip to the KC Zoo with some playgroup friends!
I have to admit, I have not always been a fan of this Zoo but this trip really was a blast! The boys were amazing...and cooperatively climbed in and out of the stroller when we moved from exhibit to exhibit!
It seems as though most of our days go much smoother if we are out and about doing something new and exciting...they seem to get along very well during this trips...it is more or less when we are at home stuck in the house that they getting into WWF wrestling matches!
Showing some brotherly love!
Seriously...this is my first baby...when did he grow up?
He is certainly is a "big man"...okay "big boy"

We visited the line creek train station the other day on one of our many outings with friends and playgroups this summer....Last time we were here was for the boys birthday...and we forgot how much we LOVE to ride the choo choo!
Preston riding with his good friend Ella!
and Ashten taking it all in with Mom!
Ashten, Preston and Ella NOT wanting to get off the train when it stopped!
No trip to line creek is complete without visiting the alligator
and creek for some rock throwing!

Someone turned 33!

Someone turned 33!

----
Someone turned 33, but were not telling who! We started the big 33 celebration at the house with some drinks and cake with our neighbors....Unfortunately a huge storm blew in and the power went out--thank goodness for the 33 candles!
The next day we woke up quite early (ie Mom woke up quite early) to pack the car for a family celebration in Omaha, NE to visit the amazing zoo and stay and the infamous CocoKeys Water Resort.
The Zoo was awesome (just as we have come to expect) It is kind of funny how Preston is getting to the age where he remembers things that we do OR he is just listening to mom and dad talk and told us about how he had been here before with Nina and Papa..
Mom, Preston and Ashten in the Desert Dome
Ashten having "no fear" in petting the goats...
notice mom is hovering and waiting to scoop her baby up from the goats
Preston feeding the birds in the bird house
They loved looking at all the animals, imitating the animals and really did a great job sticking together
Daddy's favorite the tigers and lions
After a long, hot day at the zoo we went back to the hotel and unwound a little with some swimming at CocoKeys and pizza! The hotel was definitely a disappointment in regards to the quality you'd expect from a holiday inn and the rate we paid--but we made the most of it!
A little cuddle time with the birthday boy
and a little playing in the crib!
We did get some CocoKey time in after the Zoo (I can't believe they didn't crash) and some late in the afternoon Preston in heaven!
We were moved to the hotel pool for awhile the next morning as it stormed...so we did a little swimming and jumping...Preston is excellent with a life jacket...Ashten on the other hand doesn't mind wearing it..but tumbles over and can't really hold himself upright yet!
Although a little nervous the first time, Preston LOVED the three "kid" slides they had (the smallest unfortunately was closed most of the time) and continually went down them as he avoided the giant watering bucket! Mommy and Daddy even got a chance to go down the "Big kid" slides and Ashten went down the two "little" kid slides in the watering tower area!
They also had a small play area with sprinklers and slides that they both enjoyed..
Except you HAD to catch Ashten at the end of this slide--it was so fast and flew him in the water--fearless! They both absolutely love the water and enjoy spending as much time in it as possible...swimming, jumping, running around...whatever as long as it involves water!

Bon Voyage

Bon Voyage
---

Jason and I just returned from a much needed and appreciated 9 day vacation--okay well it has been a month now that we have been home but it seems like yesterday! It was our first trip away since Preston was born-5 years to be exact which is not quite the every year trip we were accostumed too! Thankfully Nina (with a little help from Papa) offered to come down and stay with the boys while we were away and of course they had a blast! I am quite sure they were spoiled the entire week and they loved their own vacation away from Mommy and Daddy!
We flew into LAX and stayed at a beautiful hotel with a balcony on Redondo Beach the night before our cruise left. We did a lot of sightseeing, walking the beach and pier and of course just enjoying time together...jason even enjoyed his first massage!
The next day we made our way down to Long Beach to board the spectacular Carnival Splendor! It was a gorgeous ship (the newest next to the dream) with all the bells and whistles! There is no way I can possible post ALL the amazing photos or share ALL the great memories but here are a few highlights!
Setting Sail
Enjoying a game of Putt-Putt after lounging at the pool all day
Getting dressed up for one of the two formal nights...funny story with this is that Jason and I have this exact same photo (yes-clothes and all) from our cruise 5 yrs ago and 9 years ago!
The dinners were fabulous! We made it to most of them and really enjoyed the food and company! We had a fantastic group!
Obviously, we made lots of friends who we met up with numerous nights at the piano bar, night club, comedy show, dance shows, or out in the hot tub! There was ALWAYS something to do...We were literally up until 2am every night and up the next morning at 7..okay, I was up at 7..Jason slept in most days...it was just too much fun and we didn't want to miss anything!
A view from the front of the ship...Yes, we did the waterslide...well, I tried to do the waterslide...I think I may have been the slowest rider they have ever had! We also spent many days on the pool deck below, or at the Adult pool area with hot tubs on the back!
A little beach/boardwalk shopping in Puerta Vallerta after a fun-filled morning of Ziplining! We also visited Matzaltan...very fun stop! We did lots of shopping and touring the city as well as heading off to another beach for sunbathing!
Doing a glass bottom boat tour at "el arco" in Cabo San Lucas!
The BEST Beach experience I have ever had in Cabo San Lucas! It was at Lover's Beach and our guide found us a great spot up in the rocks to sun bathe and drink cerveza's!
It had a beautiful view of our ship and the Cabo shoreline!
We also did a little snorkling and rock climbing!
I couldn't resist another photo of our formal night...doesn't my husband look amazing in a suit!
And what cruise would be complete without the infamous towel animals! We did splurge a little this trip and had a balcony...it was awesome! I was able to see quite a few sunrises and sunsets...it really did make the room seem 10x bigger...It was simply the best 9 days away we could've asked for...thanks to my parents for helping us make this possible!
